Connecting to Remote Desktop Resources
Set-up FortiClient SSL-VPN Connection

Install FortiClient
- Download the FortiClient using links below:
- COM IT Department: Fortinet Client
- Fortinet site: http://fortinet.com/support/product-downloads#vpn
- Double click the downloaded file to install the Forticlient
2. Add the Primary VPN Profile (COM-VPN1)
- Double-click the FortiClient icon on the desktop
- Click Configure VPN
Select the SSL-VPN tab and click Add VPN.
Enter:
- Connection Name: COM-VPN1
- Remote Gateway: vpn1.marin.edu
- Check - ☑ Customize port → 443
- Check - ☑ Enable Single
Sign On (SSO) for VPN Tunnel
- Check - ☑ Use external
browser as user-agent for SAML user authentication
- Connection Name: COM-VPN1
- Remote Gateway: vpn1.marin.edu
- Check - ☑ Customize port → 443
- Check - ☑ Enable Single Sign On (SSO) for VPN Tunnel
- Check - ☑ Use external browser as user-agent for SAML user authentication
6. Click Save.
3. Add the Alternate VPN Profile (COM-VPN2)
A. Back on the SSL-VPN tab, click Add VPN again.
B. Enter exactly the same settings, except:
- Connection Name: COM-VPN2
- Remote Gateway: vpn2.marin.edu
- Repeat the same port and SSO settings as for COM-VPN1.
- Click Save.
4. Connecting
- On the main Remote Access screen you’ll now see both COM-VPN1 and COM-VPN2.
- Select COM-VPN1 and click Connect.
- If COM-VPN1 fails, switch to COM-VPN2 and click Connect.
- Authenticate via the browser SSO pop-up using your myCOM credentials
After Successful authentication you will see a connecting message in the browser window:
You can check the connection status in the Forticlient app. Click the carat on the right side of the task bar and select the Forticlient icon:
When connected your status will show similar to this:
Connecting to RDP Session
Download RDP link from COM IT here: RDP_DESKTOP
Copy this file from your Downloads directory to your Desktop
Double-click on RDP_DESKTOP file:
You will be prompted to log in:
The first time you connect, you may need to provide your username. You can select “More Choices” and enter another user. The user is your COM email address, and the password is your regular COM password.
After providing your username/password a window will open to an RDP window with access to files and apps for work.
NOTE:
You may also receive this warning the first time you connect. Check the box that says "Don't ask me again for connections to this computer" to stop that warning from recurring.
